Imagine that you are about to immigrate to a new country.
Other than your clothing and toiletries, you only have room to bring three personal items with you.
Fill out the graphic organizer, deciding on your three most important personal possessions. Think about memories and items of sentimental value.
Phone/charger/laptop don’tcount.
Explain each one.
How will you represent tis item? In other words what could you draw to show it?

Be sure to explain:
what the item is,
why you chose it, and
how it would help you in your new life.

3. The Arrival pre-reading predictions
Look at the front and back covers carefully and answer the questions. Flip through the book and use it to make some predictions. Work on the handout as you go.

4. Chapter 1
Look carefully at each image and page.
If you’re not spending at least a minute on each page, you’re not reading carefully enough.
Complete the handout/questions as you go.
After reading: Work on the Dragons graphic organizer and answer the questions on the back.
Complete the diary writing activity and turn in your work for Ch.1.
