1 Modeling Atmospheric Circulation
NGSS PE: MS-ESS2-6

2 Let’s break this PE apart…
MS-ESS2-6: Develop and use a model to describe how unequal heating and rotation of the Earth cause patterns of atmospheric and oceanic circulation that determine regional climates.

3 Let’s break this PE apart…
MS-ESS2-6: Develop and use a model to describe how unequal heating and rotation of the Earth cause patterns of atmospheric and oceanic circulation that determine regional climates. What content is related to the Disciplinary Core Idea (DCI) in this NGSS PE?

4 Let’s break this PE apart…
MS-ESS2-6: Develop and use a model to describe how unequal heating and rotation of the Earth cause patterns of atmospheric and oceanic circulation that determine regional climates. What would you see in a classroom where students were applying the Science and Engineering Practice (SEP) of developing and using models?

5 Let’s break this PE apart…
MS-ESS2-6: Develop and use a model to describe how unequal heating and rotation of the Earth cause patterns of atmospheric and oceanic circulation that determine regional climates. Which Crosscutting Concept (CCC) are students employing?

6 MS-ESS2.6

7 Let’s get some data to build a model
My NASA DATA

8 What is MY NASA DATA? Involve students in real science.
Enable K-12 teachers and students, as well as citizen scientists, to explore the large volumes of data that NASA collects about the Earth from space. Students use scientific inquiry and math skills as they access and display microsets of the Earth System.

9 Seasonal Net Radiative Flux
Does this prepare the students for an assessment of MS-ESS2-6? Only partially!
