1 EQ: How does your body maintain homeostasis?

2 Organization Of LIfe Molecule: chemical made from atoms
Organelle: a part of a cell Cell: the basic unit of life Tissue: group of cells working together for 1 function Organ: a group of tissues working together Organ system: a group of organs working together Organism: a multicellular living thing

3 Homeostasis Homeostasis is the body’s ability to maintain relatively stable internal conditions though the outside world is continuously changing. Maintaining homeostasis is your body’s full time job! Even while you’re asleep.

4 It is a dynamic function of your body meaning that it is always changing.
In your notes, draw a picture that comes to mind when you think of homeostasis, and list an example of how your body does this.

5 Feedback mechanisms There are two different feedback mechanisms. Negative and positive feedback mechanisms. Negative feedback is a reaction that causes a decrease the stimulus. Positive feed back causes a reaction that increases the stimulus.

6 Negative Feedback Mechanism
Negative feedback mechanisms are much more common in nature than positive. Included in these are internal temperature control and blood pressure.

7 Positive Feedback mechanisms
They are much more rare in nature because they tend to increase the sensation They typically control infrequent events that occur explosively in the body Examples include birthing a child, and blood clotting.
