3 Muscle Contusions Direct Force May be mild, moderate, or severe
Can occur anywhere on hip, but most common on Pelvic Crest = HIP POINTER Charley Horse Pain, Discoloration, Loss of Function

5 Muscle Strains Pulled Muscles
Common with Hip Flexors, Quadstrings, or Hamstrings muscles Can occur with any muscle What is the Treatment?

6 Pelvic Fracture

7 Pelvic Fracture Usually caused by direct blow
Common in equestrian sports, hockey, rugby, skiing, or football Severe pain Watch out for shock Activate EMS

8 Pelvic Fracture

9 Femoral Neck Fractures

10 Stress Fractures Caused by repetitive movement
Common with Runners or Dancers Shaft of Femur, neck of Femur, or Pelvic Bones Diffuse or localized aching pain Refer to MD

12 Hip Dislocations Very rare!
Head of Femur is out of the Acetabulum (out of the socket) Cause = direct impact of violent twisting Lying on ground, hip rotated MEDIALLY and leg is slightly flexed Activate EMS

14 Hip Bursitis Common in runners
Inflammation of the Bursa of the Hip Region Can occur from OVERUSE or direct hit Complain of burning/aching pain over area Treatment = PRICE, Stretching, Strengthening

15 Myositis Ossificans Definition : bone deposits in muscle tissue
Occurs commonly in the Quadriceps Initial contusion is not cared for properly Leads to calcification over time Need XRAY to rule out Do Not MASSAGE Ice in Stretched position

21 Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease
Also called AVASCULAR NECROSIS The Head of the Femur does not receive proper blood supply and therefore the bone falls apart! Disorder most common in males ages 3 to 12 years young Complain of gradual onset of mild hip pain Refer to MD
