Homework: Study for midterm using study guide/HP #6
Warm up: Describe 3 differences between eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells. Flush: What type of questions are harder- multiple-choice or essay questions? Homework: Study for midterm using study guide/HP #6
2
Eukaryotes vs. Prokaryotes

Plan for Today Organelle Review Superlatives Activity
Types of Transport Notes Transport Analysis Questions Transport Diagrams
4
Organelle Superlatives
Using your notes, fill in the function of organelles in the table provided Then, decided what ‘superlatives’ match your organelles best You have to use each organelle at least 1! Be creative and have fun!
5
Cell Transport Review Two types of transport
Passive- does not require energy, solute travels from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration Active- DOES require ATP, solute travels from an area of low concentration to an area of high concentration
6
Diffusion Diffusion is the movement of solute from an area of high concentration to low concentration This occurs for small, non-polar molecules that can easily travel through the phospholipids Examples: oxygen and carbon dioxide Passive transport
7
Facilitated Diffusion
Facilitated diffusion is the movement of solute particles from a high concentration to a low concentration with the help of a channel protein The channel protein helps guard charged particles since they don’t like the phospholipids Examples: Na+, K+, Ca2+ Passive transport
8
Osmosis Osmosis is the movement of water across the membrane
Water is SUPER small so it can easily move through the phospholipids Water moves to an area of greater solute concentration Or to an area with less water Example of passive
9
Active Transport Requires ENERGY/ATP
Goes against the concentration gradient (from a low to high concentration) Examples: Glucose, Na+/K+
