1 Essential Question: How do major organ systems work together in living organisms?
Standards: GSES7L2b: Develop and use a conceptual model of how cells are organized into tissues, tissues into organs, organs into systems, and systems into organisms. GSES7L2c: Construct an argument that systems of the body interasct with one another to carry out life processes. Instructional Approach(s): Review the essential question and the standards aligned to the essential question.

2 Circulatory System Role: responsible for the flow of blood, nutrients, oxygen and other gases, and hormones to and from cells Instructional Approach(s): The teacher should present the information on the slide while the students record the role of the Circulatory System on the graphic organizer sheet.

3 Heart pumps blood through the network of arteries and veins throughout the body Instructional Approach(s): The teacher should present the information on the slide while the students record the information about the Heart on their graphic organizer sheet

5 Blood Vessels Tubular structures carrying blood through the body
Like the train tracks of your body Instructional Approach(s): The teacher should present the information on the slide

6 Types of Blood Vessels Arteries:
carry oxygen rich blood from the heart to the rest of the body (like a train loaded with goods) Instructional Approach(s): The teacher should present the information on the slide while the students record information about the Arteries on their graphic organizer sheet.

7 Types of Blood Vessels Veins:
carry oxygen poor blood back to the heart (like a train carrying trash away) The teacher should present the information on the slide while the students record information about the Veins on their graphic organizer sheet.

8 Types of Blood Vessels Capillaries
small blood vessels that exchange materials (oxygen, carbon dioxide, waste, glucose) with tissues in the body Where the Train drops its load The teacher should present the information on the slide while the students record information about the Capillaries on their graphic organizer sheet.

11 Summarizing Strategy: Identify the two main systems involved in the activity below and describe the effects of this activity on the two systems. Instructional Approach(s): Each student should complete the summarizer. The teacher should use the summarizer as a formative assessment to determine student mastery of the circulatory and respiratory systems.
