2. Spider Web Spider Web 1. Everyone stand in one large circle
2. Have one student begin by holding the end of a ball of yarn. They tell the circle their name and one special thing about themselves.
3. The student keeps hold of the end and passes the ball of yarn to someone across the circle to continue.
4. Eventually a web will be created

3. Spider Web: Extensions
Repeat the process with the yarn ball being recreated by moving backwards through the circle with the same or different prompt.
Have students appreciate shared statements
Give the students a different prompt: share something and pass to someone who has it in common. Pass the appreciation. Use a council topic.

4. Learning to Listen Discuss attentive listening skills
Have the students form triads.
One student is the observer, speaker and listener
Give a topic, participate and give feedback.

Why is it important to have an observer?
What does a good speaker, listener, observer need to do?
Why is listening an important skill?
How did it feel to be listened to without being interrupted for 1 minute?
Share: It felt good when…
I liked it when… I need to practice…because….

6. Interview Circle
Everyone sits in a large circle, one student in the center.
3 students will volunteer to ask 3 questions.
The student in the center can answer or pass.
Switch students in the ‘hot seat’ and repeat.

7. Interview Circle: Reflection
What did you discover about being a questioner?
Why is it difficult to answer some of the questions?
Did the community use good listening skills? How could you tell?
How did you feel about being interviewed?
What did you learn about yourself from this activity?

8. Chain Reaction Chain Reaction Sit in a large circle.
Have one person initiate by asking a question of the next person next to them.
After they answer, have the second person address the third person with a question and so on until everyone has gone.

What did you learn about the people in the class?
How could you tell everyone was being respectful and honest?
How easy was it to give full and caring attention? Why?
How did you feel when it was your turn?
What do you feel about your class members now?

10. Bumper Sticker Give each student a long strip of paper and markers
Have each student design the bumper sticker they would display on their car.

What can you do in the future to help others feel more comfortable when they share?

12. Appreciating Others Fold a piece of paper in four
Title one box: self, best friend, mom/dad (guardian), classmate.
Fill the boxes with positive statements
Share in groups

13. Appreciating Others: reflection
What were 3 statements shared with your group?
How can making statements of appreciation help people work together better?
How do you feel making a statement of appreciation to yourself? Others?
How do you feel receiving a statement of appreciation?

14. “I’m Proud”
State the difference between stating appreciation and bragging
Sit in a circle and go around sharing:
“Im proud that I am”
“Im proud that I am able to”
“Im proud that I”
Have the class offer positive feedback

15. “I’m Proud” Reflection
How did you choose your “I am proud” statement?
What did you learn about your class members?
Why is it important to acknowledge what we are proud of?
How did it feel to make an “I am proud statement?”
