2 Ethics The Emory and Henry Code of ethics states that students will not cheat or plagiarize. Ethics (noun)—moral principles or rules of conduct recognized by a group of people

3 Disenfranchised For most of American history, women have been disenfranchised— they have not enjoyed the privileges, rights, or power they deserved. Disenfranchised (adjective)—denied the same privileges, rights, or power that other groups have

4 Ration To prevent a shortage, the government will start to ration pork this winter. Ration (verb)—only allowing a fixed amount to each individual

5 Obligation Students have an obligation to turn in their homework on time. Obligation (noun)— something that a person must do; a binding promise

6 Aspire He is a frycook, but I think he should aspire to a managerial position. Aspire (verb)—to long for, to aim for, to seek ambitiously

7 Prosperity While the poor have suffered, the wealthy have enjoyed even more prosperity in recent years. Prosperity (noun)—the state of being successful, flourishing, or thriving
