1 Project 1: Investigating the Value versus Cost of Privacy in the Internet of Things REU Student: Patrick Dorton Graduate mentors: Salih Safa Bacanli and Neda Hajiakhoond Bidoki Faculty Mentor(s): Dr. Turgut and Dr. Wisniewski Week 4 (June 12 – June 16, 2017) Accomplishments: Installed Linux Mint onto laptop to begin Android Development. Through repeated correspondence with Alex, I have learned more about how the structure of the PrivacyGate program works. Learning about Linux Terminal commands and Scripting. Issues/problems encountered and solutions (if any): Due to Windows 8 compatibility problems I was not able to dual boot Linux and have enough space to install all the needed programs to begin programming. Installation instructions were vague and was unable to complete installation. Going to make a new script to complete the installation process and ease the next year’s REU student. Plans for next week: Continue learning about the android Kernel and gain an understanding of the structure that will need to be changed to implement the ideas that we have so far for the project. With Alex’s help, find out the process to make a script to preform the full install and upload it to the code repository. NSF REU Research Experience on Internet of Things 2017
