EURO Conclusions from Cracow meeting
Marcos Dracos IPHC-IN2P3/CNRS, Strasbourg 01/12/2010 M. Dracos
2
Evolution (simplification)
~ kA 112 cm 230 cm form relatively simple without reflector and with a lower current (and of course without degrading the physics performance! 01/12/2010 M. Dracos
3
Base Line and option Separated target and horn
easy replacement of the target cooling by gas He (probably not enough…) supports have to be placed inside the hole of the horn to keep the target strait and well aligned guiding system needed for the target insertion (à la T2K) horn internal diameter relatively important (r~5+ cm) with physics effects Integrated target and horn target replacement impossible cooling of the target using water flowing inside the horn current will pass through the target skin (r~1.2 cm) magnetic field very close to the target (better physics performance) no need of target guiding system the same material has to be used for the target and the horn inner cylinder (Beryllium, AlBeMet?) 01/12/2010 M. Dracos

4 target/horn system The target/horn system and the cooling system design will be done by Strasbourg The 4 target/horn system assembling and study will be done by Cracow. 01/12/2010 M. Dracos

Costing of the facilities
P. Bonnal “Project Cost Management – what is all about?” What you have and what you don't have to cost… 01/12/2010 M. Dracos

Safety (workshop at CERN next ~February)
Identify safety issues in the project Safety of personnel during installation, operation, maintenance and dismantling actions Safety to materials/equipment – assure their operation as required by the specs Impact to the environment during installation, operation and dismantling of the facility Do risk analysis for each identified safety issue Ways to mitigate the risk incorporate in the design, include in the cost estimate Classify the risks setup the project risk register Risk analysis Environment Materials/equipment Personnel Personnel 01/12/2010 M.
