Equipment We provide everything your child needs for the school day but they may bring in their own stationery which they can use during wet play / afternoon lessons. Each day they will need to bring a school bag carrying their reading book, planner and homework book. We recommend that the children leave their P.E. kits in school every day.

Reading Please read with your child every day. Children who read regularly at home make the most progress in school. Planners are checked every day so that children can work towards Reading Awards – please sign every read! Children who don’t read regularly at home, or at least 5x a week by a Friday, will read at playtimes or lunchtimes. Children read at least once a week with an adult during a Reading Workshop session. We also teach specific reading skills through our comprehension lessons. Please encourage your child to access Reading Plus Online at home in addition to the timetables sessions in school.

Homework Monday due Friday – spellings and tables, ready for a test each Friday. Spelling/handwriting sheet - completed in their best handwriting each evening. Tables – 2 facts a night, written in planners. A piece of English and Maths homework will be sent home each weekend and should be returned on a Tuesday (Mrs Dowling’s Maths group – other groups may have a different due date but the children will be told when). Children should also read every evening, or at least 5 times per week. If you have any problems or concerns over homework, please speak to us or put a note in the planner. Logins for Mathletics and Reading Plus Online will be noted in planners once it is up and running for the new school year.

Rewards and Sanctions We use the Consequence Book!
Children are given a verbal warning, followed by a written warning. After that they begin to lose time from their playtime. If poor behaviour continues, the children are moved to another place in the classroom, sent to another classroom and finally to M. Williams. We will inform you via the planner or phone call if your child reaches the stage where they’ve lost any playtime. Children are rewarded with praise, stickers, House Points, Star of the Day, mentions in Achievement Assemblies and Progress Awards.

The 3 morning sessions are devoted to Maths, Writing, Reading and Spellings. Much of our ‘curriculum work’ (History, Geography, Science) is also completed through English. Afternoons begin with Reading Workshops followed by Science, P.E., R.E., Art, D&T and Assemblies. Children have a Music lesson once a week, during which they will learn to play the recorder. Mr. Mullen leads ‘Green Curriculum’ sessions linked to our Science topic. We aim to make our curriculum as rich as possible by organising trips and inviting visitors to school. We also hold subject specific days e.g. Science or Art Days. The Curriculum
