5 Aerobic Respiration This is basically just another fancy word for cellular respiration. It means that you are using oxygen and glucose to produce energy. What is the equation for cellular respiration?

6 What if you exercise too much?

7 Anaerobic Respiration
Your body can still create energy even if it doesn’t have enough oxygen. The equation is a little bit different:

8 Anaerobic Respiration
When your body gets energy with insufficient oxygen, it produces a waste product called lactic acid. This creates a burning sensation in the muscles.

9 Anaerobic Respiration
When your body gets energy with insufficient oxygen, it produces a waste product called lactic acid. This creates a burning sensation in the muscles. “Feel the burn!”

10 Anaerobic Respiration
When your body gets energy with insufficient oxygen, it produces a waste product called lactic acid. This creates a burning sensation in the muscles. This does not produce as much energy as regular aerobic respiration.

11 Fermentation Fermentation is the chemical breakdown of sugar when there is no oxygen present. Anaerobic respiration is an example. In humans, sugars ferment into lactic acid. In fruits/vegetables, sugars ferment into alcohols.
