Air Masses A large body of air that has properties similar to the part of the Earth’s surface over which it develops.

Air Mass Map Continental Polar (cP) or Arctic forms over Canada.
Maritime polar (mP)-forms over North Atlantic Ocean is cool and very wet brings rain and snow to the Pacific coast in the winter and cool, foggy weather in the summer. mP’s bring cool, cloudy weather to New England in winter, and cool weather and fog during summer. mT-develops over warm areas in the Pacific Ocean and Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic cT-forms over deserts of northern Mexico and south western US—brings clear dry.
