HAC We will continue to use HAC reports for the 2016-2017 school year.
Periodic grades will be posted on HAC, as well as report cards.

Report Cards Fourth grade begins the use of traditional grades for math, science, and social studies. A - Excellent Progress B - Good Progress C - Fair Progress D - Unsatisfactory Progress E - Not Progressing Plus: Strong Development Check: Satisfactory Development Minus: Skill needs improvement

Homework is a percentage of the overall grade. What should homework look like in 4th grade?

Math Expressions You will notice:
There are no study links. The homework book comes home every night. It will be imperative that this book returns to the classroom the next day. “Remembering” pages are done in class and at home to support the previous lessons There are fewer units, but they are more in-depth. Reader’s Workshop Readers’ Workshop format includes:
Whole class mini-lesson Small group instruction Leveled independent/teacher support reading Making Meaning Incorporates Cultures of Thinking, importance of talk, learning from others Small Group Instruction Students meet with teachers based on ability or skill level Alternate between strategy groups and book clubs Homework No nightly reading logs, but students are expected to read quality literature minutes per night Weekly reading homework supports state standards. and 4th grade reading skills

Writer’s Workshop Lucy Calkin's Units of Study – Writing Pathways
Writing genres include: realistic fiction, literary essay, informational writing, persuasive essay, personal narrative, poetry, and content-based paragraph writing. Our workshop includes: Whole Group Mini-lessons Independent Writing, supported by 1-on-1 and small group conferencing Sharing/Publishing Grading is based on daily writing entries, incorporation on mini-lessons in daily writing, final drafts, and content area writing, as well as, spelling and grammar.

Word Study High Frequency Words-Our students will learn a set of high frequency words that are specific to fourth grade. These are words that occur frequently in our reading and writing. It is important that your child learns to read these in print and be able to spell them correctly. Word Study- Our students will learn principles of language as they make and break common words. Goal is for students to learn patterns and parts of words that will support daily reading and writing.
