1 CESS 2016 – Session B5 "Globalisation and productivity growth"
Discussion CESS 2016 – Session B5 "Globalisation and productivity growth" Ingo Kuhnert European Commission DG Economic and Financial Affairs

2 For those with short memory: titles
Use of European statistics to analyse and monitor the European single Market in terms of competitiveness and openness to third partners Trade performance of the European economies: the inter-country input-output tables (IOTs) as a necessary tool Labour productivity indicators for the EU28 Member States: Quality Adjusted Labour Input

3 Some common points taken
Need for detailed, disaggregated data Need for combining data from different statistical domains: Input-Output-Tables with trade data, National accounts with social surveys, etc. A lot of data is in fact already available Nationally collected (collectable) data is not sufficient National data accessed via international ‘agencies’ (Eurostat, GTAP, …)

4 Questions (for audience & speakers)
Who (outside the Commission) actually needs such data? And who shall coordinate “best practices” data collection? Is timeliness good enough? Can it ever be good enough? Where is the boundary between what official statistics shall do and what more analytical bodies shall do? Can we derive suggestions for extending the NA system – transmission programmes and/or methodology?
