Service-learning is a teaching method that connects theory to practice, provides real experience to enhance academic learning, and addresses a need in the community.

El Roble de Sarapiqui El Roble is a small community with a population of 500 people. Within the community there is a soccer field, a church, a school and small grocery stores. Due to culture and income, most of the houses do not have hot water. El Roble is a community where all of the homes are close to others. The only exception are a few homes which are 200 meters from the center of the neighborhood.

Day 1: Departure Depart from the USA | Buen viaje
Arrive in the Costa Rican capital of San Jośe and enjoy your first taste of Tico Hospitality! Go through itinerary

Day 2: El Roble Homestay Go through itinerary After breakfast, explore the community where you will spend the next four nights with a local family Participate in a service project dedicated to the local school or community buildings

Day 3: El Roble Homestay Go through itinerary Continue to participate in your local service project Spend time with your host family to learn about their daily lives

Day 4: El Roble Homestay Continue with your service project
Go through itinerary Continue with your service project Learn how to prepare local Costa Rican dishes as you assist in preparing the family dinner

Day 5: San Carlos Go through itinerary Say goodbye to your host families and continue to San Carlos

Day 6: San Carlos Go through itinerary Arrive in La Fortuna to view the spectacular Arenal Volcano Enjoy a zipline canopy tour followed by a hike to La Fortuna waterfall

Day 7: San Carlos Start your day with a kayaking adventure on Lago Arena Retired school principal, Don Juan, welcomes you to his self-sustaining organic farm in the Costa Rican rainforest. Keep an eye out for tropical birds and other animals. Learn how to process sugar cane and make authentic tortillas for lunch

Day 8: San José Go through itinerary Journey back to San José, Costa Rica’s cosmopolitan capital Stop en route in Sarchí, the hub of Costa Rica’s arts and crafts trade

Day 9: Depart for the USA Go through itinerary Return home with incredible memories, experiences and stories and almost certainly a desire to travel again!
