1 Work, Force and Motion

2 Work and Forces

3 Force a push or a pull on an object push = away; pull = toward has size and direction changes speed and direction Force (F) is measured in newtons (N)

4 ÷ F D W X Work - a force moving an object over a distance.
Work is done ONLY if an object moves in the direction of the force Work (W) is measured in joules (J) Force (F) is measured in newtons (N) W F D ÷ X

5 Do all forces result in motion?
Can you see all forces acting on an object? Can more than one force act on an object at the same time?

8 Net force - the combination of all the forces acting on an object
When forces on an object produce a net force of 0 N, the forces are balanced and the object does not move When the net force on an object is not 0 N, the forces on the object are unbalanced Unbalanced forces produce a change in motion of an object

9 Balanced Forces Balanced Forces- When the forces on an object produce a net force 0N Will not cause a change in motion of a moving object Does not cause a non-moving object to move

10 Unbalanced Forces When the net force on a object is not 0N
the forces are unbalanced Produce a change in motion

14 The forces acting on the object can be balanced or unbalanced
If they are unbalanced their will a change in the objects motion. How will this objects speed change? Find the Net force acting on the object. 10 N 5 N

15 Find the Net force acting on the object.

16 Find the Net force acting on the object.
________________ Are the forces balanced or unbalanced? 10 N 12 N
