1 Objective: Find slope by using the slope formula.

2 Slope: the steepness of the line.
The larger the slope the steeper the line. Example: A slope of 6 will be a much steeper line than a slope of 2.

3 1) 2) There are two ways to think about slope: **Graphs
1) ) **Graphs ** Tables or Ordered Pairs

4 There are four types of slope:
1. POSITIVE SLOPE NEGATIVE SLOPE 3. ZERO SLOPE UNDEFINED SLOPE

5 1) 2) Find the slope of the line that contains the points.
1) ) (2, 5) and (8, 1) (–2, –2) and (7, –2)

6 3) 4) Find the slope of the line that contains the points.
3) ) (5, –7) and (6, –4) (-2,-6) and (-2, -1)

7 Find the slope of the line that contains the points.
5) ) (1, 2) and (3, 3) (0, 3) and (-2, 5)

8 If you are given a graph…
Pick 2 of your own points! Then you can either: Use the slope formula or Calculate rise over run!

9 Find the slope. 7) )

10 Find the slope. 9) )

11 If you are given a table…
Pick 2 of your own points! Then …. Use the slope formula

12 Find the slope. 10)

13 Find the slope. 11)

14 5 -4 Find the slope. 12)

15 13) 5 -4 The table shows the driving distances that Jesse recorded.
Not part of guided notes The table shows the driving distances that Jesse recorded. 13) Find the slope and determine her speed in miles per minute.

16 y=mx+b 5 -4 To find slope from an equation: Move the x’s (+ or -)
Solve for y=mx+b Move the x’s (+ or -) Divide by what’s next to y Your slope is the “m” value!

17 5 -4 Find the slope. 13) ) 2x + 3y = 12. 4x – 2y = 16.

18 5 -4 Find the slope. 15) ) x + 2y = 8 -4x + y = 12.
