Graphing
2
Graphing (the basics) X-axis: Horizontal; Independent variable
Y-axis: Vertical; Dependent variable Title: Dependent variable vs. Independent Variable Slope = Rise/Run or ∆y/ ∆x Formula of a line: y= mx+b m = slope b = y-intercept
3
Dependent vs. Independent Variable
Best fit line If line looks straight, then do not connect the dots, draw a line that is the average of all of the dots Dependent Dependent vs. Independent Variable (Unit) Independent Variable (unit)
4
How to calculate Slope Find two points on your line
Take the difference between the y-values Take the difference between the x-values Divide the y difference by the x difference For example… (5, 4) and (10, 7) 7-4 = 3 10-5 = 5 3/5 or 0.6

Types of Graphs Direct (as one increases; the other increases proportionally) Indirect (as one increases; the other decreases proportionally) Inverse (as one increases, the other decreases substantially) No Relationship
