2. Magnetic Field
Magnets have a magnetic field with the strongest magnetic forces at its poles.
There are usually two poles on a magnet.
Like poles repel and opposite poles attract to each other.

Like poles repel
(2 north poles or 2 south poles will not stick together)

The magnetic compass contains a magnet that interacts with the earth's magnetic field and aligns itself to point to the magnetic poles.
