2. Light Facts Optics is the study of light
Light energy is always moving and can therefore not be stored
Space is dark because light is only visible when it has an object of which to bounce off

3. Speed of light Light travels very very fast indeed
Its speed is around 186,000 miles per second / 200,000 kilometers per second – measured in a vacuum
It takes seconds to get from the earth to the moon
The sunlight that we see here on Earth actually left the Sun 10 minutes before
Sunlight can reach a depth around 80 meters in the ocean
Air only slightly slows down light

4. Is light an energy? Light is a type of electromagnetic energy
Light is also called electromagnetic radiation when speaking of light other than visible light.
Of all the forms of radiation and light on the electromagnetic spectrum, humans can only visibly see a very small amount of light
UV lights are often used by forensic scientists to see details that are not seen by the naked eye

5. What is the colour of light?
The light we normally talk about in everyday life refers to the visible spectrum – the bit that the human eye can see
White light is a combination of all the colours in the colour spectrum. It has all the colours of the rainbow
On one end of the spectrum is red light with the longest wave length
Blue or violet has the shortest wavelength

6. What type of material can light travel through
Water
Glass
Crystal
Clear Plastic
Such materials are called ‘Transparent’
