Life History A recollection of an individual’s experiences in their life. Retelling one’s experiences in a narrative way Provides a more intimate understanding of their culture An individual’s perception, reaction, and contribution to changes in their lives The diversity that exists within a community Individual personalities, interests, and abilities may vary

Life History Example: Exogamy among the Trobriand Islanders, as described by the Trobirandanders Malinowski determined that relying solely on the information they provided would provide an inaccurate description of their culture Going to the people, directly, for data while taking their interpretation (and the extent of their compliance to) the rules within their culture into consideration. There are three methods to ensure accuracy when providing a description of a culture (Cultural Anthropology: Second Canadian Edition, p.47)
