What is the impact of policies on children? Child outcomes result of interplay of different factors Capacities of different actors to realise children’s rights? family, service providers, teachers, local authorities, goverment importance of child participation both macro- and micro perspective crucial – government policies and community development/civil society social cohesion/fabric of society without this: maybe right policies but no sustainable change UNICEF

6 What does this add? a tool to think through implications of different policy options integrated, multi-dimensional approach to policy analysis focus on the interrelationship between the macro level of national policy making and the micro level of children‘s experiences and community life identification of critical areas in the policy process shift in perspective from adult-driven to child-centred analysis understanding the impacts of policies on child well-being helps to identify what policies and services meet the needs of children and families Here only focus on poverty, but impacts reach further: stagnation or even reversals in social indicators, particularly health and education UNICEF
