1 Enterprise/Security Alignment Review
Security Executive Council Tools & Solutions Snapshot Enterprise/Security Alignment Review Welcome to the Security Executive Council’s Tools & Solutions Snapshot: Enterprise/Security Alignment Review. This presentation is designed to give you insight into how the Council develops its tools, solutions and services and how security and risk practitioners use them.

2 Strategic Initiatives Protect People, Assets, Processes, Brand
We continually take the pulse of the Council community to determine what initiatives are important to them. These strategic initiative categories continue to be at the top of the list. The Enterprise/Security Alignment Review program can incorporate elements of each of these initiatives. Protect People, Assets, Processes, Brand

3 Background With no standards to follow, security executives struggle to find reliable guidance in and evaluating existing programs as well as developing new ones. The security professional, unlike colleagues in finance or law, has no commonly accepted standards by which to build and judge success in managing security programs. When a security executive wants to develop a new program or initiative, when he or she simply wants feedback on the quality of an existing program, or when management begins to question the validity or success of programs, it may be difficult to find a source for a subjective, valuable review. The Security Executive Council recognized this need and developed the Enterprise/Security Alignment Review program.

4 Program Offerings Stakeholder Interviews Risk Assessments
Program Review Benchmarking Results and Recommendations This program pairs security or other executive clients with former security executives who have found success in managing risk in corporations. These reviews are specifically tailored to meet the needs of each client company and have covered such topics as strategic review, identification of risks, organizational blueprint for security management, and new program development. The process incorporates five core elements: stakeholder interviews, risk assessments, program review, benchmarking, and results and recommendations.

5 Increase alignment with the business Identify emerging risks
How Practitioners Are Using This Resource Increase alignment with the business Identify emerging risks Improve succession planning Understand structural issues Confront compliance concerns The Enterprise/Security Alignment Review has been used to help security executives understand the relationship between the company’s strategic business objectives and its security programs. It has also been used as an effective tool for succession planning. It helps the security executive to understand structural issues surrounding the development of security programs, including program maturity, cost considerations, emerging risks and a growing body of regulatory and compliance issues.
