Compared with human regular insulin, insulin aspart, insulin lispro and insulin glulisine have a faster onset of action, a higher peak level and a shorter duration of action. Compared with the other rapid-acting insulin analogues, the curve for rapid-acting insulin aspart is shifted to the left, with a similar area under the curve, but a faster onset and earlier peak. Care must be taken when interpreting the curves, as experimental settings in which the data were gathered differed between studies. IU, international units.
