Sub class: Apetalae Flowers unisexual ,. Perianth either petaloid or sepaloid or absent. Series : Curvembryeae Flowers regular, . Ovary superior, Embryo curved Order : Chenopodiales Mostly herbs, Ovary superior,.Monocarpellary with one ovule Family : Amarantaceae

5 Family : Amarantaceae Habit : mostly or rarely shrubs.
Leaves : Alternate or opposite ,simple , entire , exstipulate, hairy. Inflorescence : spike, head or raceme , cymose panicle. Flowers :Regular ,bisexual or unisexual , with scarious thin , dry and membranous, non green and persistent bracts and a pair of membranous persistent bracteoles. Perianth : Sepaloid, membranous , dry, and often coloured, or white, consisting of 3-5 scarious or hyaline ( translucent) persistent leaves, imbricate.

6 Family : Amarantaceae Androecium : stamens 5, opposite the perianth members, filaments free or united at the base into a short tube, often with staminodes between petaloid perianth. Gynaecium : Carpels 2-3, syncarpous, 1– celled, superior. Style united, short or long, stigma capitate or 2-3- fid,ovules solitary or rarely more on a basal funicle. Fruit : A nut, utricle or ptyxis (dehiscing transversely ) as in Celosia

9 Family : Rutaceae Plant : Shrubs or trees , very rarely herbs , often provided with thorns. Leaves : Alternate or opposite ,simple or compound , generally smooth with pellucid or gland-dotted (containing essential oil) and exstipulate. Inflorescence :Axillary or terminal cymes or panicles or solitary. Flowers :Regular /rarely irregular ,bisexual ,rarely unisexual , with an annular or cushion-like disk generally between or above the stamens. Sepals : 4-5,imbricate or valvate ,free or connate, glandular Petals : 4-5,imbricate rarely valvate ,free .

10 Family : Rutaceae Androecium : stamens are as many as petals or double the number of petals i.e. obdiplostamenous condition, rarely, many as in Citrus., free or polyadelphous, anthers 2- celled, introse, cushion like disk present between the stamens. Gynoecium : Ovary 4-5 carpels, syncarpous, 4-5 celled, superior, with often 2 ovules superposed, style short, free or connate ,stigma entire or lobed. Fruit : A berry or rarely a capsule or a drupe.
