The flying shuttle was an invention by John Kay made in 1730
The flying shuttle was an invention by John Kay made in It was a tool that made weaving easier and faster. The shuttle would have a thread attached as it was thrown across strings to make a criss-cross pattern.

Industry The industry the flying shuttle affected the most was the textile industry. Before the flying shuttle, two or more workers were needed to operate a loom. With the introduction of the flying shuttle one worker could weave large cloths by himself. This greatly improved the output of weavers and eventually led to the industrialization of the textile industry .

Social impacts Positive Impacts Negative Impacts
Flying shuttle only required one person to weave instead of two making it easier and less stressful. Made new jobs because someone needed to work the machine. Negative Impacts Needed an upright beater, instead of an overhead beater, which was very loud and unsettled weaver’s nerves. People considered it a corruption of the purity of hand weaving.

Economic Impacts Positive impacts: The mechanized flying shuttle made the weaving of fabric easier and faster so the can sell faster and sell more for more money. It made an improvement of the looms. Negative impacts: Many of the weavers before the flying shuttle became unemployed and out of money.
