What is Geography? Geography – the study of the earth and its land, water, and plant and animal life

Five Themes of Geography
Location Absolute Location Describes the exact position of a place on earth. Uses latitude and longitude Example: Relative Location Tells where a place is in relation to other places.

Place Describes a location’s features Features Physical Features
Occur naturally Plants and animal life, soil conditions, and climate Examples: Cultural Features Created by human beings who live there

C. Human/Environment Interaction
Humans have changed the natural features of the earth to suit their needs. Examples:

D. Movement Includes movement of people, goods, and ideas.
Immigration – people who enter a country to settle. Examples:

E. Region Areas that have something in common Looks at:
Physical Characteristics – location, size, landforms, climate, soil, and natural vegetation. Cultural Characteristics – language, religion, government, or history Examples:
