They also developed a calendar with a 365 day year and a system of writing known as hieroglyphics.

Algeria was invaded by France.

Italy colonized Libya. Disagreements led to European powers drawing geometric boundaries in N. Africa.

Egypt gained independence from the United Kingdom in 1922.
Algeria won independence from France in 1962.

Libya won independence from Italy in 1951.
Tunisia separated from France in 1956.
