Committee Charter Purpose of Charter Goals and Objectives of Committee
Committee Member Responsibilities Deliverables

Purpose The Policy & Planning Committee is responsible for projects and activities relating to policy positions, policy papers, strategic planning, awards and elections.

Goals and Objectives For 2014-2015 the committee will focus on:
Policy Positions, White Papers, Strategic Planning, Awards, and Elections. In 2014, the committee will identify additional projects or activities for 2015 within the policy and planning area.

Committee Member Responsibilities
Responsibilities of Committee Members include: Representing the interests of the SMSA members as a whole. Representing the interest of the membership category represented. Participating in conference calls/web meetings of the committee. Identifying possible SMSA projects and activities. Assisting in overseeing project and activity expectations.

Committee Member Responsibilities, cont.
Participating in an annual meeting of the committee in conjunction with the annual SMSA conference (either prior to or post conference) if attending. Contacting members represented to solicit input and feedback on projects and activities. Providing feedback to SMSA staff on projects and activity deliverables.

Committee Member Responsibilities, cont.
Responsibilities of Executive Committee and Staff include: Provide representatives with up-to-date membership contact information. Scheduling conference calls / web meetings. Minutes from conference calls / web meetings. Support the activities of the committee. Report activities to the SMSA Executive Committee. The SMSA Executive Committee shall provide direction and feedback to the committees. The SMSA staff shall be responsible for planning and development tasks associated with all committee projects and activities in consultation with the committee chairperson.

Deliverables Policy Positions
Develop and document a formal process for the review, development and revision of SMSA policies and positions. Distribute draft document for the review, development and revision of SMSA policies and positions to the SMSA Membership for review and comment; and post on the SMSA website. Finalize the process for the review, development and revision of SMSA policies and positions during the 2014 SMSA Annual Business Meeting.

Develop and document a formal process for the review, development and revision of SMSA white papers. Distribute draft document for the review, development and revision of SMSA white papers to the SMSA Membership for review and comment; and post on the SMSA website. Finalize the process for the review, development and revision of SMSA white papers during the 2014 SMSA Annual Business Meeting. Strategic Planning Assist the SMSA Executive Committee with the strategic planning process including the development of 1-Year Plans. Provide recommendation to the SMSA Executive Committee for revisions to the SMSA Strategic Plan.

Conduct the process for the solicitation, review and selection of SMSA Awards. Present SMSA awards at the annual SMSA conference/summit. Maintain the documented process for submitting nominations for SMSA awards. Elections Conduct the process for the solicitation, review and election for SMSA Executive Committee members. Present the results of the SMSA elections at the annual SMSA conference/summit. Maintain the documented process for SMSA elections.

Policy Positions Developed policy process on how to submit policies, requirements of information, and steps to follow upon receipt of policy proposal. Began drafting policies on personal protective equipment and national standards. Finalize the process for the review, development and revision of SMSA policies and positions during the 2014 SMSA Annual Business Meeting.

White Papers Developed a formal process for review, development and revision of white papers. Finalize process for the review, development and revision of SMSA white papers during the 2014 SMSA Annual Business Meeting.

Strategic Plan 2014 1-Year Work Plan on SMSA website.
Currently working on ideas for projects/activities for future strategic planning to present at the SMSA Symposium Business Meeting.
