Quantum hydrodynamics and expansion of a strongly interacting Fermi gas W. Y. Zhang, L. Zhou and Y. L. Ma Department of Physics, Fudan University, Shanghai, China Motivation We generalize the quantum hydrodynamic equations and study the dynamics of a strongly interacting Fermi gas trapped in an anisotropic harmonic trap. By using this simple theory to simulate the expansion of the Fermi gas observed experimentally by O’Hara et al., Science, 298 (2002) 2179, we find that the density profiles of the system are well described by the Fetter-like form in the dynamical process in all spatial directions. Method We start from in which Model the superfluid wave function as a Fetter-like form in the density in addition to a quadrupole-mode phase. Calculate the Euler-Lagrange equations with the corresponding time-dependent density functional Lagrangian density . We can get the dynamic equations, simulate the expansion of the Fermi gas and compare the results with the experiment. ( ) Result 1 Result 2 Conclusions We have solved the unitary Schrödinger equation in the variational method with a modified Thomas-Fermi trial wave function, and investigated the ground-state properties and the expansion of the trapped superfluid Fermi gases in the unitary regime. We show that the density profiles of the system are well described by the Fetter-like form in the dynamical process in all spatial directions. References [1] Q. Chen et al., Phys. Rep. 412 (2005) 1.
