Now repeat the C and the E !
One struggle in the story that Batman faces is trying to defeat the Penguin. For example, Batman tries to catch Penguin when he climbs up the ladder. This shows that he is trying to keep him from leaving so he can stop him from getting away with the money. The comic strip also shows Batman and Robin tracking down Penguins hiding spot. This shows that Batman has not given up, and plans on catching Penguin to stop him from getting away with crime.

Just like a video game, reaching Level 2 is always more difficult and requires more work.

2 Point Response: • Complete sentences where errors do not impact readability (R) Valid inferences and/or claims from the text where required by the prompt (A) • Relevant facts, definitions, concrete details, and/or other information from the text to develop response according to the requirements of the prompt (C) • Sufficient number of facts, definitions, concrete details, and/or other information from the text as required by the prompt (C) Evidence of analysis of the text where required by the prompt (E) Notice that it has facts in plural…this means in order to get 2 points you need to repeat the C E of race!

Cx2 and Ex2 You have to provide MORE THAN ONE citation in order to earn 2 points on the NYS rubric!

Now let’s take a look at our first question!
Think back to our reading passage, Excerpt from Kidnapped. The following question is based on that reading.
21
In lines 1 through 21 of “Excerpt from Kidnapped ,” how does the setting contribute to the mood? Use two details from the story to support your response. I V F In lines 1-21 from “Excerpt From Kidnapped,” the setting contributes to because the setting is the mood mysterious which makes the mood more serious. Exemplar Answer: In the lines 1-21 from "Excerpt from Kidnapped,” the setting contributes to the mood because the setting is mysterious which makes the mood more serious. For example, “there was never a sail upon the ocean, and of what I could see of the land there was neither house nor land.” (5-6) The mood in that quote is mysterious, but the setting being abandoned adds to that feeling. In addition, to add to the mysterious and suspenseful feel, the author wrote, “I was afraid to think what had befallen my shipmates and afraid to look longer at so empty a scene.” (7-8) This shows that looking at the empty scene makes the narrator even more serious about what is going on. Therefore the setting contributed to the mood.
