2 Athens and Sparta The two biggest, most populated city-states in ancient Greece Allied together to fight against the Persians Culturally, they were extremely different from each other

3 Athens The Philosophical, Cultural and Artistic Capital of Greece
Valued freedom and education Made advances in Science, Medicine, Math Produced great thinkers like Socrates, Plato and Aristotle Constructed great works of architecture Women were second class citizens, everything was run by men

4 Sparta A city state dedicated to warfare
All Spartan men worked as soldiers. All other jobs were done by slaves called Helots. From a very young age boys left home to begin military training Military service was mandatory until the age of 60 Women had freedom of movement and played important roles in household affairs
