What is God like? Think of ten words that Christians might use to try and explain what God is like. LO: To explore Christian beliefs about god

Transcendence – God is above all. God is independent of the universe and physical existence. LO: To examine what God is like

God is present in all living things. 1– For each new key word – draw a picture to represent what it means. 2– Write the definitions then a sentence as to why Christians might think this. 3– How can God be transcendent and immanent at the same time? How can God be all knowing, all powerful and all loving and yet there is still evil in the world? Try use drawings / diagrams to explain your answers. Extension 1: Which quality do you think is the most important and why? Give reasons to support your answer. Extension 2: Why do you think most artists portray God as looking like man? Use the Bibles to look up the following references. Each of these Bible verses matches to one of the qualities you have just listed. You need to decide which one it matches best and write it down. 11 Christians believe that people find it difficult to say what God is like because God is beyond human understanding. When people talk about God they tend to use pictures, symbols or symbolic language. Sometimes people try to describe God by saying what God is not like, e.g. God is not cruel. There are many famous pieces of art which are supposed to be of God. What do you think many of them have in common? Stretch – What would be the most suitable way to represent God in art?
