3 Personal Narrative A personal narrative is a story, typically written from a first-person point of view, and usually written with an organized structure of incident- response-reflection. It tells an engaging story that has an exciting plot, enjoyable characters, intriguing setting, and strong conflict all about a real life event that changed the character in the story.

4 Artwork Entry Task What do you notice about the painting?
Choose one of the characters. What decisions did this person make to get to this point? Their decisions will change history. How? Why? We are going to take a look at a piece of art for 5 minutes. While we look at the painting, you will be writing down answers to the following questions. You can answer questions with bullet points. We will discuss your answers in groups and whole class afterward.

Please write these two down in your notebook. How do authors use narrative elements to create a story? Why is storytelling an important aspect of a culture or society? Oath of Horatii: is a large painting by the French artists Jacques-Louis David painted in 1784 it is displayed in the Louvre. It depicts a scene from a Roman legend about a dispute between two warring cities, Rome & Alba Longa, and stresses the importance of patriotism and masculine self-sacrifice for one’s country. Instead of the two cities sending their armies to war, they agree to choose three men from each city: the victor in that fight will be the victorious city. 669BCE.
