HOW WAS LUNA FORMED & HOW DOES IT AFFECT SOL & TERRA

2
THE MOON Also known as Luna. Formed 4.5 billion years ago.
Formed through the debris of Earth & Thea. Orbits the Earth in a 29.5 day cycle. Earth’s ONLY natural satelite.
3
THE EARTH Also known as Terra or Gaia. 3rd planet from the sun.
ONLY celestial body to accommodate life. Formed around 4.5 billion yrs. ago. 70 % of Earth’s surface is covered w/ water.
4
THE SUN Also known as Sol. The star at the center of our Solar system.
109 times bigger than Earth. Formed billion yrs. ago. Gravitational collapse within a molecular cloud.

LUNA’S FORMATION
6
GIANT IMPACT THEORY Thea & Proto-Earth.
Blasted material orbiting the Proto-Earth accreted forming the Moon. The moon coalesced from the Earth & not the impactor.
7
CO – FORMATION THEORY Earth & Luna.
Formed at the same time as parent planet. Smaller density compared to a planet.
8
CAPTURE THEORY Earth & Luna.
A rocky body formed elsewhere in the solar system. Drawn into orbit of a planet.
