Land use has changed: Deforestation Afforestation
Grasslands to farmlands Between 1995 and 2005 arable land area increased by 24million hectares. Soils are estimated to store 3x more carbon than vegetation. Soil degradation due to poor land management prevents soils from storing carbon. In North America freshwater withdrawals from agriculture increased from 30% in 1998 to 38% in 2014.

b. Ocean acidification due to combustion of fossil fuels risks crossing the critical threshold for the health of coral reefs and other marine ecosystems.

c. Climate change due to EGE may increase frequency of droughts due to shifts in climate belts – this may impact on the health of forests.
