Research suggests effective relationships require: High degrees of trust, respect, admiration, and social exchange Higher levels of performance, job satisfaction, dependability, and have low turnover High levels of mentoring, coaching, and socializing Research suggests efficient relationships: Thrive between quality individuals Place a high value on time Result in better outcomes

Needs of leadership in healthcare: styles
Servant Leadership Definition: Balance between leader and follower; putting others first Qualities: Values opinions, cultivates trust, sharing knowledge, encouragement, and long-term Charismatic Leadership Definition: Charm and persuasiveness of the leader; driven by convictions and commitment to their cause Qualities: Respect, halo effect, self-development, determined, responsible, and visionary Motivational Leadership Definition: Motivating others to strive for certain goals rather than simply act on orders; create a safe and trusting environment Qualities: Visionary, clear goals, lead by example, encouragement, optimistic, give praise, and communicate

Transformational Leadership Definition: a leader works with followers to identify needed change, creating a vision to guide the change through inspiration, and executing the change in tandem with committed members of a group serves to enhance the motivation, morale, and job- performance of followers Characteristics: Idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration

Hypothesis: If individuals pursue a healthcare occupation, then they are more likely to place a higher value on effective and efficient relationships because it can lead to better outcomes and results for the entire group.
