C.E.R.C. C – Claim E – Evidence R – Reasoning C – Conclusion
Assessment Writing This will be my way to determining what you have learned and your ability for application.
2
Claim When making a claim you need to make sure you:
Address the question directly. Do so briefly and yet boldly Think of this as a topic sentence that is targeted at the question
3
Evidence When writing, your opinion will not always be enough. Remember (evidence vs. speculation) You need to provide: Examples, data, proven facts to make your claim and your essay valid. (Use your notes) Otherwise it is just a blog post amongst millions
4
Reasoning For this element your task should be to remove all assumptions. Walk your reader exactly where you want them to go. Explain how your evidence and claim are connected and how they develop an answer to the major question.
5
Conclusion Reinforce you claim.
Once you have laid all the evidence on the table remind your reader of your main point Leave the reader with the most important thing you want them to remember. Making things neat and brief is often better than long wordy sentences.
