WHAT? I can gather facts, expert opinions, and anecdotes for my pro-con essay. WHY? So I can support the facts I am presenting. HOW WILL I KNOW? I am able to use all three in my essay.

Take notes on… 3 types of support for an essay: FACTS Expert Opinions Examples/Anecdotes Create a Web with your advantages and disadvantages. Have an element of support for each one. (homework if you don’t finish)

What are some ways you can support the advantages and disadvantages you are presenting in your paper? How will people believe the facts you are presenting? What stage in the writing process was the brainstorm support web you completed yesterday?

Read page 96 in your green language book silently. Take notes on the bolded words. Complete the Practice questions 1-2 Then, complete the following question… Are you going to discuss advantages or disadvantages first in your essay? Why?

DRAFT #1 (due tomorrow) Draft #1 can be written on a separate piece of paper. 4 paragraphs (intro, pros, cons, conclusion) You must use only the three types of support we learned about yesterday. (NO OPINIONS) DOUBLE SPACE WRITE IN PENCIL WRITE NEATLY

Follow directions on your writing checklist BE SURE TO SAVE TO YOUR H DRIVE You will staple your Draft #1 to the back of Draft #2 (Both are DUE FRIDAY) Be sure your name is on both. When you finish, take a study guide for tomorrow’s quiz.

Language Arts: Thursday 11/8
You have two minutes to study for the quiz. Have your study guide out, ready to turn in. WHEN YOU FINISH THE QUIZ: Be sure your name is on it. Turn it in at THE HUB Read silently.

Language Arts: Friday 11/9
Get out your typed Draft #2 with Draft #1 stapled behind it. Label which paragraphs are your pro and con by writing in the space on the side. Underline your 3 specific details of support in each of the body paragraphs. Number them out to the side of the paper. 1-3 Re-read your paper to double check for errors.

Peer Editing With your table partner, switch papers.
You will read your partner’s paper out loud, and your partner will read yours. Next, re-read your partner’s paper silently. This time, edit their paper for spelling, word choice, punctuation, etc.. Then make sure all of their support fits either facts, expert opinions, or anecdotes. Suggest things they could change or improve. When you finish, write a note on the back of their draft. Tell them things they could improve on and things they did well. (at least 3 sentences) write your name as well.
