TA-SE THIRD GENERAL MEETING
SAG: Civil Engineering Jakarta March 2018
2
WE ARE NOW A FAMILY Thank you TUNING TA-SE
3
AGENDA/OUTCOMES Defining student’s workload: questionnaire survey
Task 2: Bridging between Meta profile and your own program: Reflection to identify gaps Designing/Re-designing a programme: 10 steps in the Tuning Method: Leading towards 4th General Meeting in Bangkok in September Discussion on publication for the group
4
Agenda 1: Student’s Workload
5
Student Work Load Survey
TUNING would like to run a survey on students’ typical work load in a semester Some time reference: may start about two month from now and must end latest June/July to be in time for analysis for 4th General Meeting in Bangkok We prefer to do the survey based on the present semester We suggested on 6th semester for 4 year programme and 8th semester on 5 year programme - we got agreement from Tuning
6
Agenda 2: Revisiting Task 2 META-PROFILE vs our own programme
7
META-PROFILE FRAMEWORK Civil Engineering
Advantages The competencies that are in two domains allow our future graduates to posses the 21st century skills better The designation of importance in the meta-profile will demand more emphasis in the curriculum design as well as the teaching and learning as well as in the assessment of outcome attainment that follows
8
META-PROFILE Civil Engineering
Personal Skills Social Values G1 G7 G10, G13 S13 Technical S3, S4,S6, S7,S14 S12 G3 G9,S1 S10,G12 G4 G2,G11, S2,S5,S8,S9,S11 G8,G6 G5 Only between Social and Personal Skills Reprioritising Importance Top in importance Medium in importance Bottom in importance

META-profile & Our Programmes
Our responses have been documented in the package given for this meeting General conclusion: Some programs have more outcomes than the META-Profile competencies and some programs have fewer. Many did the comparison by mapping the two (their outcomes and the META-profile competencies Whilst many are able to match nicely, some programmes have more expected competencies compared to our META-Profile Competencies Everyone will re-look at their amended programme outcomes and will do another comparison with the META-profile
11
Appreciating and Starting the 10 Step (Re)Design Tuning Approach
Agenda 3: Appreciating and Starting the 10 Step (Re)Design Tuning Approach
12
10 Steps in Summary 1 Name of the new or revised programme 6
Linking the degree with the agreed META-Profile 2 Length and the level of the programme 7 Define the structure of the programme 3 Explain the social need of the new or revised programme 8 Programme overall consistency 4 Future fields, sectors of employment of graduates 9 Internal Quality Control/Enhancement 5 Description of the degree profile (outcomes and competencies) 10 Other relevant aspects
13
Some Decisions/Findings
All university will (re) design their existing programmes Good timing for a curriculum review Applying the Tuning methodology to a brand new program (coming semester) Applying the Tuning methodology as part of an existing curriculum review As part of the Continual Quality Improvement (CQI) All programmes are at Bachelor Degree 3/11 : 5 year program and 8/11: 4 year program
14
ACTIVITIES We spent time to review our programme outcomes.
We compared our existing programme structure We shared our existing system Comparing our existing program structure gave rise to other opportunities like benchmarking, mobility/exchange programs, dual/double/joint degree possibilities and others.
15
Detailing a Course Structure
Select one course Write the course objective and the course synopsis Come up with the Course Outcomes (CO) for this course Determine the assessment method to measure the attainment of these course outcomes Map each CO to your Programme Outcomes (PO) Everyone has to repeat this for all their courses, before they can check on the consistency of their programme.
19
Checking the consistency Mapping CO to PO
Agenda 3: STEP 8 Checking the consistency Mapping CO to PO We reminded each other, that they must have this mapping
20
STEP 8
23
OUR ACHIEVEMENT STEP Activity TIME 1
Name of the new or revised programme Each university select one Done 2 Length and the level of the programme Each university decides 3 Explain the social needs of the new or revised programme Each university explains 4 Future fields, sectors of employment of graduates 5 Description of the degree profile (outcomes and competencies) Each university decides - based on existing or create new ones 6 Linking the degree with the agreed META-Profile Revisit Task 2 7 Define the structure of the programme Must also define course outcomes for each course Continue and complete 8 Programme overall consistency Mapping of courses (learning outcomes) to programme outcomes/competencies For next meeting 9 Internal Quality Control/Enhancement 10 Other relevant aspects
24
Agenda 4: Publication
25
DISCUSSION ON PUBLICATION
We have to write a report for Civil Engineering SAG We need to plan for the report Is there any possibility of a journal publication?
26
Structure of the Report
Content Time line Task 1 Introduction Sept 2018 Coordinator 2 Generic & Specific Competences Norhazilan 3 Consultation and Reflections 4 Meta-Profiles* 5 Programe Design* February 2019 To be determined 6 Student’s Work Load* 7 Implementation Experience July 2019 USM 8 Reflections of the TUNING methodology* 9 Conclusions * : Each team member will write their own report for compilation later
