An Inconvenient Truth………..
Global Warming And Profitable Convenient Misdirection An Inconvenient Truth………..
2
Note that time period is from 1980 to present
To understand climate data, it needs to be studied over long time periods…. This is a typical chart used to illustrate the relationship between CO2 & Temperature. CO2 is leading temperature. So does CO2 causes global warming? Note that time period is from 1980 to present
3
Data can be presented in many different ways….
Time periods and scales can be manipulated to change how we view the data. Here is the same data, but temperature is now shown as leading CO2. Adjusting the “Y” axis scale changes how the data might be interpreted…….. Correlation does not prove causation. --And-- 35 years is not long enough to identify interactions.
4
During Last 150 Years, Temperature “Appears” to Follow CO2 …. BUT
When you look at a longer time period, the data may no longer fit so conveniently!! CO2 Data from direct measurement (Mauna Lua, Hawaii) CO2 Data from Ice Cores Note that temperature is trending downward after this point (1945). The CO2 trend has not changed! It is still climbing. 1980 is used as NORMAL temperature (i.e.”0”) Why would you do that?? Statistically, this says there are other factors. Temperature = ʄ (x1,x2,x3,x4,x5…..)
5
Over a 450,000 year period, there is definitely a correlation between CO2 & Temperature.
Some might think it reasonable to conclude that CO2 build-up causes Global Warming!!
6
BUT …….. Expand the “150 Year” chart to cover 1000 years
Now the relationship is no longer clear……Temperature does not track CO2!! Temperature Precedes CO2 Peak 400 years ago …. Higher and steeper than last 150 years!! Clearly unrelated to CO2 levels which were constant.
7
Zero in the “450,000 Year” chart to 150,000 years
Note that Temperature often Precedes CO2. Unlikely that CO2 is causing Temp Increase Temperature Precedes CO2
8
Normal Temperature Variation over last 10,000 years.
Average Temperature is highly variable. Highs and Lows are normal. Present Upward Trend is NOT an Unusual nor Unexpected Event !!!
9
CO2 Magnified 10 times for illustration purposes.
Just how much CO2 is in the air anyway???? CO2 (Human) % Other 0.92% CO2 (Natural) 0.037% Oxygen 20.95% CO2 (Natural) CO2 (Human) % CO2 Magnified 10 times for illustration purposes. Nitrogen 78.09% Any Volume of Dry Air The very small red square in the upper right corner represents the increased volume of CO2, some of which is a result of Human Activity since 1945. In normal air which contains water vapor, the proportions are even smaller.
10
CO2 has minimal impact on “Global Warming” Effect.
Water Vapor has major impact. Considered by many to be a mitigator. (I.e. increase humidity increases cloud cover and reduces greenhouse effect Many other factors are in play!! CO2 has relatively small impact

Global Warming The Facts are………..
It is clear that humans are responsible for an increase in CO2 levels. BUT there is no clear or demonstrable (statistically significant) “cause and effect” link between CO2 levels and global temperature. Global temperatures will fluctuate with or without us. Always have, always will. Any “Human” effect will be additive to an already established temperature increase. There is no clear evidence as to the magnitude of that increase, but it is definitely small. Environmental causes are big business…..with very large profits. Nobody pays for studies or donates to organizations that report the facts without some angle that the “sky is falling”. The real truth is boring!!
