Once upon a time, a young chocolatier named Luisa Spagnoli fell in love with Giovanni Buitoni, a founder of the Perugina chocolate company. Inspired by their secret love she began to make chocolates with dark chocolate, gianduja, cream and hazelnuts. This chocolate includes a secret message with a love phrase in four languages: Italian; English; Spanish; French. Nearly 100 years later, Perugina continues the tradition of Luisa's Baci. The company is located in Perugia, a town in central Italy.On Valentine's day in Italy these chocolates are a traditional gift.

History of Valentine’s Day in Italy
Valentine’s Day was initially celebrated as a Spring Festival in Italy. Celebration for the day was held in the open air. Young people would gather in tree arbours or ornamental gardens and enjoy listening to music and reading poetry. Later they would stroll off with their Valentine into the gardens. The custom steadily ceased in the course of the years and has not been celebrated for centuries.

Valentine's Day is celebrated in the memory of Saint Valentine, the Christian martyr who gave his life in the honor of love. In England, Valentine's Day, marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring. There are also some traditions about this day: In England this festival is also celebrated by the kids. Children sing special songs and are rewarded with candies and toys. Another English Valentine's tradition is to write lyrics and sonnets as a tribute to Saint Valentine. On Valentine's day, the young girls wake up early in the morning, stand near the window and keep an eye on the people passing by. This legend tells that the first man a girl sees, on the morning of Valentine's Day, will be the man of her life.

There are many symbols attached to Valentine's Day. The most commonly Valentine's Day Symbols are: red roses, were said to be the favorite flowers of Venus; hearts, used to signify romance or love; Cupid, was the god of love in Roman mythology; lovebirds, are symbols of love because they mate for life; lace, used to decorate chocolate boxes and Valentine’s cards; chocolates and teddy bears, because are a traditional gifts of Valentine’s day. These symbols are printed on cards, wrapping paper and clothing.
