One number as a percentage of another
NON-CALC Q: What is £36 as a percentage of £80 Write as a fraction and multiply by 100. Write decimal or fraction as a percentage Fractions – write as an equivalent fraction over 100 Decimals – multiply by 100

Finding a percentage of an amount
Find 8% of 110 Write 8% as a decimal and multiply ie x 0.08 110 x = 8.8

Finding what an increase/decrease is as a percentage
Also known as “percentage change” questions An item bought for £154 is sold for £175 Find the percentage increase, correct to 3 s.f. The amount it changes, whether up or down it doesn’t matter. Use a positive number.

Increasing/decreasing an amount by a percentage
Increase 650 by 12% Multiplier is Decrease 1110 by 11% 100% + 12% as a decimal, i.e. 1.12 100% – 11% as a decimal, i.e. 0.89
