2 A Quick Note… Students will get their scores on Friday. There is a parent/ guardian brochure posted on the Lovinggood website regarding the results.  If you should have further questions, please contact Mrs. Abernathy, the 7th guidance counselor.  If students were not here last year, then they will not receive EOG results at this time.  As we receive them from their previous schools, we will distribute those. 

3 Important Dates: Conference Week is October 17th – 20th
You will be meeting with your student’s homeroom teacher.

4 My Goals To make you a stronger reader across all academic classes
To give you the academic and social skills you need to progress to 8th Grade and High School. To provide a supportive and fun classroom environment. To help you discover new interests and develop them.

5 Late Work Policy NO Saturday Schools Fix-it-Friday
If 1 Oops Card are used in the same class per 9 weeks Teacher notify parent Held with Mrs. Stewart/Mrs. Adair Students will get the opportunity to make up work they used Oops Card

Writing In reading we will Work with reading skills the 1st 9 Weeks Read the Giver /AC The Giver Quarter Writing is still a major part of the class, however we will focus on shorter writing assignments

We will be completing 2-3 Novel Studies in class this year Short list: The Hobbit The Giver The Outsiders Several Literary selections Actual novels used in class will be announced in plenty of time to get a copy if needed/wanted

9 Grades: Synergy Grades are in a constant state of flux.
Please don’t be alarmed if your student’s grade drops one day and improves the next. Each time an assignment is added things change. If there is one item in a category, the grade isn’t going to be a true reflection. As we do more assignments, the grades will give you a more accurate picture. Look at each category for a true understanding of progress.

10 Synergy and student accountability
Grades are updated weekly Check with your student regularly. Ask child about missing assignments. Have student check binder for missing work. Students should check the red crate for any missed hard copies of work.

Updated daily by 5 p.m. What is on the blog? Homework Downloads of assignments Helpful websites and class information When students are absent, they should check the blog first.

13 Spring Novel still in discussion
The Giver – Please purchase by Labor Day weekend. We will start reading the novel in class after Labor Day weekend. Spring Novel still in discussion

14 Behavior Management: Synergy
EHS stands for Excellence, Honor and Service, our school motto. Located in Synergy Students earn a conduct grade as follows: (S) –Satisfactory= 0-3 marks (N) -Needs Improvement = 4-5 marks (U) -Unsatisfactory rating = 6+ marks Parent contacts made all along the way Communication is KEY

16 Conduct and Behavior Management
0-3 Marks in Synergy = Satisfactory (S) 4 Marks in Synergy = Needs Improvement (N) 5+ Marks in Synergy = Unsatisfactory (U) Behavior is kept track of in the “Behavior Management” category in Synergy. It is not for a grade. Behavior marks do impact Hawk Time.

17 Class Rules Our classroom is a community. In our community, we have rules to help us get along with each other. Our class rules are: Be respectful and responsible. Be organized and follow directions. Be on time. Be prepared.
