2. Eve/Mary Dichotomy
Read the first four short biblical selections on Eve and Mary. Make a chart that compares/contrasts each based on the following criteria:
Character Traits
Relationship with God
Visited by
Their husbands’ behavior toward them
Conception of children
Character/behavior of children
Consequence of the women’s actions
What impact might these contrasting stories of Mary and Eve have on later society’s perception of women?
Are any of these perceptions still relevant today? Identify examples from modern culture where traces of these perceptions still remain. What does this tell us about modern culture?

3. Literature: Eve and Mary
Read the biblical excerpt on Eve and Mary. Annotate for the following items as you read, and complete the comparison chart.
The Children of Eve: the root of Cain’s crime, relationship with God, irony of Cain’s fears
The Child of Mary: risks for Mary in her culture, predictions for her child, role of obedience, characterization of Mary, relationship with God
Mary’s Man: characterization of Joseph, relationship between Mary and Joseph-- contrast with Eve and Adam
Mary’s Child: characterization of Mary, predictions for her child, relationship with God

4. Articles/Critical Commentary: Eve/Mary Dichotomy
Jigsaw Reading:
Form groups of 4-5 (no more, no less).
Assign each group member a specific article to read and annotate.
After reading, each member of the group will share the following with the team:
Main idea
At least 3 details or ideas that directly support the main idea (point them out in the text for your group)
Any additional statements or ideas that stand out
Your personal response to the article: agreement, rebuttals, personal connections
