A brief history of Quanah Parker
4
How it all ended As chief of the Comanche, Parker worked hard to help his people. He pushed for the construction of schools on the reservation. By leasing unused reservation land to Anglo cattlemen, he increased the Comanche’s income. Although Parker urged his people to adopt white ways, he never forgot he was a Comanche. He continued advocating the American Indian church and refused to cut his braids. Parker was dressed in full Comanche style in 1911 when he was buried beside his mother at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
