4. How can warehouses contribute to sustainable cocoa supply chains?
Reducing our own impact on the environment
Contributing to lower carbon footprint of the entire supply chain by generating enough energy to cover own needs and supply back to the grid, thereby reducing carbon emissions of energy production

5. Some examples:
Straddle carrier storing energy from downward movement to reduce energy use for upward movement
Replacing diesel fork lift trucks by electric ones
Circular economy: Supply used cocoa bags to automotive industry to stuff car seats
Waste separation

6. CWT:
We lower our carbon foot print as much as possible by, installing LED lighting in offices and warehouses.
Electric forklifts powered by solar load stations.
In Ghana our Tema location is running on solar power with battery back up its the first in the group with a 100% change over.
In this year we will install m2 of solar panels on the roof of our warehouses, partly own use and the balance for onward delivery.
Heating systems changed into heatpumps
Company cars as much as possible electric or hybrid.

Development of a calculator to measure the carbon footprint reduction in warehousing in the entire supply chain

10. Potential impact of warehouses can be fully developed by
Long term relation with customers, so warehouse and trade/industry can optimise carbon footprint reductions in supply chains
Terminal markets differentiating between warehouses with active environmental policies and others, so investments pay out
Local authorities promoting investments in sustainable warehouses

11. Other warehouses can benefit from EWF’s policies
The EWF standard can be applied by other warehouses, for instance in cocoa producing countries
The calculation tool will be available for other warehouses and supply chain partners
