4. Receive
Since there will never cease to be some in need on the earth, I therefore command you, ‘Open your hand to the poor and needy neighbour in your land.
Deuteronomy, chapter 15, verse 11

5. Engage
We all need shelter – somewhere to live. Not everyone can afford to buy or rent a place to live.
In the UK we use some of the money raised through taxes to help people who are in need. Yet even with that support there are many thousands who live outdoors, with no shelter, nowhere to call home.
Charities often step in at the most critical times to help people who are homeless.

Why do we use taxes to pay for accommodation of those who can’t afford their own place?
What might be a better way of housing those who can’t afford accommodation?
Discussion techniques - Go back to the Bible passage ask “How does the theme link with the Bible passage?”
Discuss the question in pairs for 30 seconds then invite a response from each pair.
Use quick-fire answers e.g. throw a soft bean bag / toy to a student, when they answer they throw it back and you quickly throw to another student.
Simplify the question - Invite quick one-word answers, write them on the board, then reflect on the answers – see connections.
