2 First Reading Bill introduced by a Cabinet minister or private member in the House of Commons No discussion

3 Second Reading Bill introduced again and debated in general

4 Committee Stage Bill usually sent to select committee, standing committee, or committee of the whole House. They produce a report. Bill studied in detail, and amendments often made; each section may be voted on separately

5 Third Reading Bill briefly debated Third vote taken

6 The Senate Bill goes through three readings and committees, as in the House of Commons

7 Governor General The Governor General signs the bill to become a law
